Few Italian clubs carry the institutional weight of Golf Club Varese. Founded in 1934, it is one of the oldest and most respected courses in northern Italy, and its role in shaping the country's golfing culture extends well beyond its Lombardy address. The club has hosted numerous national and international events over the decades, including Italian Open championships, and it remains a fixture on the Italian tournament circuit. The course was designed with a classic European parkland sensibility and winds through mature woodland on the slopes of Campo dei Fiori, the protected natural park that rises dramatically above the provincial capital of Varese.
The setting does real work here. Elevation changes give the layout variety and bite, with views across the Varese lake district and the pre-Alpine foothills that serve as a reminder you are playing in genuinely beautiful terrain. Tree-lined fairways demand accuracy off the tee, and the course rewards patience and course management over raw power.
Varese sits about 50 kilometers northwest of Milan, making Golf Club Varese one of the more accessible serious tests in the region for visitors based in the city. Expect a formal, members-club atmosphere with a deep sense of history.
