Lake Havasu City sits in the Mohave Desert along the Colorado River, best known for the London Bridge — yes, the actual one, dismantled stone by stone in England and rebuilt here in the 1970s. It's an unlikely setting that somehow works, and The Refuge GC occupies that same spirit of desert reinvention. The course plays through the arid landscape typical of western Arizona, where saguaro and brittlebush frame fairways baked by reliable sunshine and where winter rounds draw snowbirds escaping colder climates across the West.
The Colorado River corridor supports a surprisingly active golf community for a city of its size, with several courses competing for locals and the steady stream of visitors who come for the lake's boating and recreation. A par 72 layout gives The Refuge a traditional full-length structure, and desert golf at this elevation tends to reward strategic thinking — errant shots find punishment quickly in rocky desert scrub.
Lake Havasu enjoys some of the sunniest, driest weather in the country, which means The Refuge is a genuinely year-round operation. Fall through spring is prime season, with summer rounds best started early before the Mohave heat makes the back 9 a test of endurance as much as skill.
