Few settings in European golf match the theatrical backdrop that Gli Ulivi commands above Sanremo. The course sits high in the Ligurian hills, where terraced olive groves — the ulivi of its name — give way to panoramic views across the Italian Riviera and the Mediterranean below. That elevation is central to the experience: the terrain is dramatic, the holes tumble and climb across steep hillside ground, and the sea glitters in the distance on clear days.
Gli Ulivi is one of the older established clubs on this stretch of coast, rooted in the early 20th-century tradition of Riviera golf that attracted a well-heeled European clientele to the region. The design works with the natural contours rather than against them, which means uneven lies, elevation changes, and approach shots that demand imagination and club-selection discipline more than raw power.
Sanremo itself is the Italian Riviera's most storied resort town, famous for its flower markets, casino, and the Festival della Canzone Italiana. Golf here feels woven into that Belle Époque atmosphere — an unhurried afternoon round with a genuinely spectacular Ligurian backdrop.
