Markham sits at the northeastern edge of the Greater Toronto Area, where the city's sprawl gradually gives way to the Oak Ridges Moraine and the rolling countryside of York Region. It's a part of Ontario with a serious golf culture — the corridor stretching from Richmond Hill up through Stouffville supports a dense concentration of courses, and players here tend to be knowledgeable and demanding of variety.
The name "Upper Course" almost certainly signals a multi-course facility, where the routing climbs to higher ground or occupies the more topographically interesting portion of the property. That kind of layout tends to reward shot-making over raw power — a par of 71 typically reflects a design where longer holes are balanced by precise, shorter ones that demand more than just distance.
Ontario's shoulder seasons can be punishing, with spring mud and autumn frost compressing the best golf into a window from late May through September. When the weather cooperates, though, this part of York Region offers genuinely pleasant parkland conditions, with mature tree lines and firm turf that rewards players who manage their game thoughtfully from the first tee.
