Few clubs in the Irish capital carry quite the sense of permanence that Castle Golf Club does. Founded in 1913 and designed by Harry Colt — one of the great shapers of early 20th-century golf — the course occupies a quietly remarkable piece of ground in Rathfarnham, on Dublin's southside. Colt's routing weaves through mature woodland, with oak and beech providing the defining character of a layout that rewards accuracy and course management over brute power. At par 70, the card is not meant to flatter.
Rathfarnham itself sits at the foot of the Dublin Mountains, and on clear days the hills form a backdrop that reminds you how close the city still is to genuinely wild terrain. Castle has long been regarded as one of the stronger parkland tests in Leinster, respected among club golfers who know the difference between a course that merely looks the part and one that genuinely asks questions.
The membership is private, and the atmosphere reflects that — unhurried, traditional, and proud of its history. For visiting golfers fortunate enough to secure a game, Castle offers a standard of parkland golf that Dublin's reputation for the links can sometimes overshadow.
