Small-town Idaho doesn't always announce itself loudly, and neither does River Park Golf Course — but Mackay sits in a stretch of the Lost River Valley that earns your attention. Surrounded by the Lost River Range, which includes Borah Peak, Idaho's highest mountain, this is high-desert terrain at around 6,000 feet elevation, where the air is thin, the sky is wide, and the light in the late afternoon turns the sage-covered hills a particular shade of amber that's hard to forget.
A par 64 layout signals a course built for the community rather than for tournament ambition — shorter holes, a premium on ball-striking accuracy over raw distance, and rounds that move at a comfortable pace. These tracks are often where a region's everyday golf culture lives: regulars who know every bounce, families introducing kids to the game, visitors who stumbled in and were glad they did.
Mackay itself is a ranching and mining town of a few hundred people, which means River Park likely functions as a genuine gathering place — the kind of course where the 19th hole conversation matters as much as the scorecard.
