Few layouts in the Orlando metro carry the design pedigree of Timacuan Golf & Country Club. The course was crafted by Ron Garl, a Florida-based architect known for working sensitively with natural terrain rather than imposing artificial drama onto it. Garl routed Timacuan through wetlands, mature hardwoods, and the subtle elevation changes that make this corridor of Seminole County feel distinct from the flatter stretches of Central Florida — the result is a course that rewards course management and thoughtful shotmaking over raw power.
Lake Mary sits in the northern fringe of the Greater Orlando area, a community that grew rapidly through the 1980s and 1990s but retained genuine tree canopy and a less resort-driven character than the tourist-heavy corridors to the south. Playing golf here feels closer to the real Florida — water, wildlife, and afternoon thunderstorms — than the manufactured resort experience that dominates much of the region.
Timacuan has earned consistent respect in Florida course rankings over the years, often cited among the stronger non-resort tests in the state. It plays as a genuine challenge for single-digit handicappers while remaining navigable enough that mid-handicappers can fully appreciate what Garl built.
