Few private clubs in the Atlanta metro carry the pedigree of Atlanta National. Designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened in 1991, the course occupies the rolling, wooded terrain of Milton — a community in the northern reaches of Fulton County that still feels distinctly rural despite sitting less than an hour from downtown Atlanta. Nicklaus brought his signature blend of strategic demands and dramatic shaping to the property, and the result is a layout that rewards careful shot placement over brute force, with water hazards and bunkering that punish wayward play while giving the thoughtful golfer a clear path to scoring.
The setting itself does a great deal of work. Milton's Piedmont topography delivers genuine elevation change, framing holes through corridors of Georgia hardwoods and pine, and lending the round a sense of seclusion that belies its proximity to one of the Southeast's busiest cities.
Atlanta National has built a strong reputation within Georgia's private club scene as a serious, members-first course — the kind of place that earns loyalty through consistent conditions and a layout that reveals new angles the more you play it.
