Cyprus has a complicated relationship with golf — the island hosts only a handful of courses, and serious club golf here is genuinely rare. Vikla Golf & Country Club sits in the village of Vikla, in the Limassol district, occupying the rolling inland terrain that rises away from the southern coast toward the Troodos foothills. This is a quieter, more agricultural part of Cyprus than the resort strips of Limassol or Paphos, and the course reflects that — a members' retreat rather than a tourist facility, oriented toward a local golfing community that is small but dedicated.
The Limassol district enjoys long, dry summers and mild winters that make year-round golf practical, though the heat of July and August demands respect on any exposed, sun-baked layout. The landscape away from the coast turns stony and undulating, with scrub vegetation and panoramic views toward the Troodos range giving the setting a distinctly Mediterranean character that no parkland course in northern Europe could replicate.
As a private members' club, Vikla offers the kind of unhurried, community-focused golf that is increasingly hard to find on an island where most golf infrastructure caters to visiting tourists and resort packages. Membership here means belonging to a tight-knit group with genuine ownership of the game in their own backyard.
