Few golf experiences in Europe match the sheer novelty of playing this far above the Arctic Circle, where Ruka-Golf occupies the slopes and forest clearings surrounding one of Finland's most popular ski resorts. The course sits within the Ruka-Kuusamo tourism hub in northern Ostrobothnia, a region better known for its winter sports, husky safaris, and the wild rivers of Oulanka National Park than for fairways — which makes arriving here with a bag of clubs feel like a genuine act of adventure.
The terrain is authentically Nordic: spruce and pine press in tight, the ground rolls with the natural topography of fell country, and the routing takes full advantage of elevation changes that most Finnish courses simply don't have. In summer, the midnight sun extends rounds deep into the evening hours, casting long shadows across greens that in December sit under meters of snow.
Ruka-Golf functions as a resort course serving the broader Ruka village, drawing visitors who combine a round with hiking, canoeing, or bear-watching excursions nearby. It's unhurried, scenically dramatic, and genuinely unlike anything you'd encounter further south.
