Few Scottish Borders towns wear their setting quite as naturally as Peebles, where the River Tweed curves through a valley of rounded hills and the kind of unhurried pace that makes a round of golf feel like the obvious way to spend a day. The course here sits on upland ground above the town, and the terrain does much of the design work — shortish by modern standards and playing to a par of 70, but with the elevation changes and prevailing winds that this part of Scotland reliably provides, the scorecard rarely tells the full story of what you'll face.
The Scottish Borders occupy a particular corner of the golfing landscape: not the famous linksland of the coasts, but a rich interior culture of hill courses where membership is affordable, welcome is genuine, and golf remains a community game rather than a commodity.
Peebles itself is a handsome market town with strong literary and outdoor traditions, and the course reflects that character — unpretentious, rewarding for those who pay attention to the ground, and thoroughly rooted in its place.
