Few mountain courses in Canada carry the visual drama that greets you at Silvertip. Perched high above the Bow Valley on the outskirts of Canmore, the course was designed by Les Furber and opened in 1998, built across steep, forested terrain with the Canadian Rockies rising in every direction. The elevation changes are genuinely severe — this is not a course that flatters you with flat lies — and the design leans into that ruggedness rather than engineering it away.
Canmore itself sits in a sweet spot between Banff National Park to the west and Calgary roughly 100 kilometres to the east, which means Silvertip draws a mix of resort visitors and Front Range regulars. The mountain setting brings short summers, and the course typically operates seasonally, making a round here feel like a deliberate occasion rather than a casual Tuesday afternoon.
Silvertip has earned consistent recognition among Canada's top public-access courses, and its reputation rests on the combination of genuine difficulty, dramatic scenery, and the sense that you're playing somewhere the terrain was barely tamed.
