Few courses carry a name as evocative as this one. Parcours de l'Impératrice takes its title from Empress Eugénie, the Spanish-born consort of Napoleon III who made Biarritz — Anglet's glamorous neighbor — the summer capital of the French Empire in the 1850s and 60s. That imperial connection transformed the entire Basque Coast into a playground for European royalty and aristocracy, and golf followed almost inevitably: the Biarritz area became one of the earliest and most fashionable golfing destinations on the Continent.

The course sits within the Chiberta golf complex, a well-regarded facility set among the maritime pines that characterize this stretch of the Atlantic coast between Bayonne and Biarritz. The terrain is relatively flat but the tree corridors are tight, the coastal winds are a constant presence, and the pine-scented atmosphere gives the whole experience a distinctly Landaise character that feels nothing like the mountain courses a short drive inland toward the Pyrenees.

For visiting golfers, Anglet itself is often overlooked in favor of its more famous neighbors, but the town sits at the heart of a genuinely rich regional golf scene — one that includes Chantaco, Arcangues, and the storied Biarritz Le Phare just minutes away.
