Cattails Golf Club sits in Alamosa, the largest city in Colorado's San Luis Valley — one of the most geographically striking settings in American golf. At roughly 7,500 feet above sea level, the high-altitude air thins enough that drives carry noticeably farther than golfers expect, which has a way of recalibrating your entire approach to club selection. The valley floor is vast, flat, and wide open, framed on the east by the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and to the west by the San Juan range, giving rounds here a panoramic quality that's hard to replicate.
The name "Cattails" nods to the wetland vegetation common along the water features and drainage corridors of the valley, and it's a reasonable guess the course incorporates some of those natural elements into its routing. The San Luis Valley's semi-arid climate means dry, firm conditions for much of the season, with cool mornings and afternoon breezes that can shift quickly at elevation.
For golfers traveling through southern Colorado — whether en route to Great Sand Dunes National Park or simply exploring the region — Cattails offers an accessible, community-serving layout at altitude, in a valley with genuine scenic character.
