Squire Creek Country Club occupies a stretch of piney, rolling terrain in Lincoln Parish, a corner of north Louisiana that most traveling golfers pass right through without stopping. That's a mistake. This part of the state sits well above the bayous and flatlands most people picture when they think of Louisiana golf — the elevation changes are real, the tall loblolly pines frame nearly every hole, and the air carries that particular resinous stillness you only get deep in the southern forest.
The club carries the feel of a genuine private retreat built for serious members rather than resort traffic. A par 72 layout in this landscape demands that the designer work with the natural contours of the land, and courses in this pocket of Louisiana tend to reward patience and local knowledge over raw power — the pines narrow landing zones and punish the impatient.
Choudrant itself is a small community southeast of Ruston, home to Louisiana Tech University and one of the more underrated college-town golf cultures in the Deep South. Squire Creek sits at the quieter end of that world, a club that rewards the golfer willing to seek it out.
