Preston sits in the bluff country of southeastern Minnesota, where the Root River cuts through limestone karst terrain unlike anything else in the state. This corner of Minnesota — part of the Driftless Area, left untouched by the last glaciers — is defined by steep wooded ridges, spring-fed streams, and valleys that seem to belong more to Wisconsin or Iowa than to the flat prairie most people picture when they think of the state. It's genuine hill country, and a course called Rivers Bend in this setting almost certainly earns that name.
A par-71 layout signals something worth paying attention to: the designer made a deliberate choice here, and in terrain this varied, that likely means the routing follows the land rather than forcing symmetry onto it. Expect elevation change, tight corridors through timber, and holes that ask for placement over raw power.
Preston itself is a small town that draws visitors for fishing, trail cycling along the Root River State Trail, and a quietly authentic rural character. Golf here feels like a local institution rather than a destination resort — the kind of place where the landscape does the heavy lifting.
