Coolamon is a small agricultural town in the Riverina region of New South Wales, sitting in the flat, open wheat and canola country between Wagga Wagga and Griffith. The Riverina's dry continental climate — hot summers, cool winters, and reliable sunshine — makes for year-round golf on courses that have learned to do a lot with limited water and modest resources. Country golf in this part of rural NSW has its own unhurried rhythm, where the game is as much about community as competition.
Coolamon Golf Course is a classic bush layout of the kind that dots the Riverina's small towns — volunteer-maintained, deeply local, and entirely unpretentious. Fairways cut through open pastoral land, native eucalypts providing the primary definition and hazard, with the wide sky of inland New South Wales a constant presence overhead. Greens in this climate tend to reward local knowledge, as conditions shift significantly between seasons.
For visitors passing through on a road trip or looking to play every course in the region, Coolamon offers something a city course simply cannot: a genuine slice of rural Australian golf culture, where a round costs next to nothing and strangers are welcomed without ceremony.
