Lake Gaston straddles the Virginia-North Carolina border, wrapped around the reservoir that gives it its name — a 20,000-acre lake created in the 1960s when Roanoke Rapids Lake was dammed along the Roanoke River. The region draws boaters, anglers, and vacationers to its wooded shoreline communities, and the golf club fits squarely into that unhurried, lake-country rhythm. This is recreational golf in the most genuine sense: a round that belongs to a longer weekend rather than a competitive itinerary.
The surrounding landscape is gently rolling Piedmont, where Virginia's coastal plain begins to flatten out and loblolly pines dominate the tree lines. Courses in this corner of southside Virginia tend to reward patience over power, with tree-lined corridors and modest elevation changes doing the work that dramatic topography does elsewhere.
For visitors using Lake Gaston as a home base for a stay on the water, the club offers exactly what that context calls for — a comfortable, unpretentious 18 holes that sends you back to the dock without demanding too much of your scorecard.
