Hawkinsville sits in the heart of middle Georgia's peach country, a small city along the Ocmulgee River that has long served as the county seat of Pulaski County. The region's terrain is characteristic of the Georgia Piedmont transitioning toward the coastal plain — gently rolling land, sandy soils, and the kind of tall Georgia pines that line fairways and frame nearly every shot. Summers here are long and humid, which means the turf stays lush through most of the season, though afternoon heat in July and August is no small thing.
Southern Hills Golf Club is the community's 18-hole, par-72 layout, the sort of course that functions as a social anchor for a small Southern town — where local members have played the same friendly rivalries for decades and newcomers are welcomed with the easy hospitality the region is known for.
Middle Georgia isn't a destination golf market, but courses like this one are the backbone of American golf — accessible, unpretentious, and rooted in a community that genuinely uses them.
