Par 58 courses get overlooked, but Sunshore Golf Club makes a strong case for the short-game layout as a genuine test of shotmaking rather than a warmup round. Situated in Chase, British Columbia, the club sits in the South Thompson River valley — semi-arid ranchland and sagebrush country that most golfers picture only when they think of the Kamloops region a half-hour to the west. Little Shuswap Lake lies just minutes from town, and the surrounding landscape has a sun-baked, open character that suits the course's name well.
At par 58, every hole is a par 3 or a short par 4, which means approach precision and putting replace raw distance as the deciding factors. Accuracy off the tee and imaginative iron play matter here more than a driver, and that tends to level the field in the best way.
Chase itself is a small, unhurried community where the Thompson River corridor draws anglers and campers as much as golfers — Sunshore fits naturally into that relaxed, get-outside culture of the BC Interior.
