Few public courses in Greater Cleveland carry the civic history that Big Met does. Part of the Cleveland Metroparks system — one of the finest urban park networks in the country — it has been a cornerstone of accessible golf on the west side of the city for generations, offering the kind of open, walkable layout that rewards regulars and welcomes newcomers without pretense. The "Met" in its name reflects the Metroparks stewardship, and the "Big" distinguishes it from its shorter sibling, Little Met, just down the road.
Fairview Park sits in Cuyahoga County, where the Rocky River valley carves through the western suburbs before meeting Lake Erie. The Metroparks land along that corridor gives Big Met a naturalistic setting that feels removed from the surrounding neighborhoods — mature trees, open turf, and the kind of honest midwestern sky that makes late-afternoon rounds genuinely pleasant in the warmer months.
This is everyday public golf at its most democratic: affordable, well-trafficked, and woven into the recreational fabric of a city with a long, serious relationship with the game.
