One of the oldest and most storied private clubs in New York City, Richmond County Country Club has been a fixture of Staten Island's social and sporting fabric since the late 19th century. The course carries the quiet authority of a club that has never needed to advertise itself — its membership and traditions have simply endured, generation after generation, in a borough that has always prided itself on its distance, temperamental and geographic, from the Manhattan mainstream.
Staten Island's North Shore setting gives the club a character distinctly unlike the suburban parkland layouts that dominate the outer boroughs. The terrain here has genuine roll and maturity, with tree canopies that have had more than a century to establish themselves over fairways that reward local knowledge and a controlled ball flight.
For visiting golfers, a round at Richmond County offers something increasingly rare in New York City golf: a private members' club where the pace, the grounds, and the atmosphere all reflect a long, unbroken commitment to the game as it was meant to be played.
