Few golf clubs in Germany carry the historical weight of Berlin-Wannsee. Founded in 1895, it is one of the oldest golf clubs in continental Europe, and its grounds along the southwestern shore of the Wannsee lake have witnessed more than a century of the sport's evolution in Germany. The layout was shaped over decades, with the mature tree-lined fairways and the gentle, rolling terrain of the Grunewald forest giving the course a distinctly classic, almost unhurried character that feels removed from the city despite sitting well within Berlin's boundaries.
The course rewards thoughtful, accurate play over power. Fairways corridor through stands of birch and pine, and the lake and surrounding waterways come meaningfully into play on several holes, adding a visual drama that also demands respect from the tee. It is the kind of design where local knowledge accumulates over years, and members develop genuine affection for its subtleties.
Wannsee occupies a corner of Berlin freighted with broader history — the villa district nearby and the lakeside landscape are among the most storied in Germany. Playing here is, in part, an encounter with that layered past.
