San Jose's south side has long had a complicated relationship with open space — the valley floor swallowed by development for decades — which makes Santa Teresa Golf Club feel like a genuine geographic reprieve. The course sits within Santa Teresa County Park, a rolling stretch of oak-studded hills where the Santa Cruz Mountains begin their slow climb from the valley. That setting matters: this isn't flat, manicured suburban golf but terrain with real movement, where elevation changes affect club selection and the dry California summer turns the hillside fairways firm and fast.
As a public facility operated by Santa Clara County, Santa Teresa has served generations of South Bay golfers — the kind of course where juniors learn the game, regulars walk their home track on weekday mornings, and weekend tee sheets fill quickly because affordable, quality public golf in Silicon Valley isn't easy to come by.
Par 71 suggests a layout that leans on shorter, more strategic holes to create its test rather than relying on pure distance. The hills do the rest.
