Edenton sits on the Albemarle Sound in the northeastern corner of North Carolina, one of the oldest towns in the state and a place where Colonial-era architecture lines streets shaded by ancient live oaks. It's an unlikely setting for a links-style layout — links golf being a tradition born of Scottish coastlines — but the flat, open terrain of the Inner Banks region and the proximity to broad tidal water lend a certain legitimacy to the concept.
