Few courses along the Gulf Coast carry the pedigree that Shell Landing does. Designed by Davis Love III and opened in 2001, the course winds through a maritime forest of longleaf pines and ancient live oaks draped in Spanish moss, with wetlands and tidal marshes shaping nearly every decision a player must make. Love drew on the natural coastal topography rather than fighting it, producing a layout that feels genuinely rooted in its Mississippi surroundings rather than imposed upon them.
Shell Landing has earned consistent recognition on regional and national rankings, and it's not hard to understand why. The course rewards strategic thinking over raw power — water comes into play on the majority of holes, and the coastal winds off the nearby Mississippi Sound can quietly dismantle a comfortable round. The back nine in particular builds toward a demanding finish that leaves little margin for loose swings or careless reads.
Gautier sits between Biloxi and Pascagoula in Jackson County, a stretch of the Gulf Coast that trades the casino-resort bustle of its neighbors for a quieter, more natural character. Shell Landing fits that mood perfectly.
