Rivertowne Country Club sits in Mt. Pleasant, the prosperous suburb east of Charleston that has grown dramatically over the past 2 decades while still holding onto the Lowcountry's marshland character. The course was designed by Arnold Palmer and opened in 2001, part of a planned residential community along the Wando River. Palmer's design leans into the terrain — wide fairways framed by tidal marshes, maritime forest, and the kind of coastal views that remind you exactly where you are. Several holes play directly alongside the marsh, where the wind off the water can shift a straightforward iron approach into something genuinely demanding.
The Lowcountry setting means players contend with humidity, afternoon sea breezes, and the occasional alligator sunning near a water hazard — all part of the experience. The landscape is visually striking in every season, with Spanish moss draped over live oaks lining the residential corridors of the course.
Rivertowne functions as a private club serving its surrounding community, so the atmosphere tends toward the relaxed and familiar rather than the formal. It's a course where the scenery earns as much conversation as the scorecard.
