Ørnehøj Golfklub sits in the rolling farmland just east of Aalborg, in a part of Jutland where the landscape opens up into wide sky and gently undulating terrain. Gistrup is a quiet residential enclave on the fringes of North Denmark's largest city, and the club reflects that character — unhurried, community-rooted, and genuinely welcoming to members and visitors alike.
The name translates roughly to "Eagle Hill," a nod to the elevated ground that gives the course its topographical identity and, on clear days, views across the surrounding countryside that reward a well-played hole as much as a good score does. Jutland's North Sea-influenced climate means the wind is rarely absent, turning an otherwise straightforward parkland layout into a more demanding test depending on the day's conditions and direction.
For visiting golfers, Ørnehøj offers a taste of Danish club golf as locals actually experience it — modest in pretension, solid in design, and embedded in a region where the summer evenings stretch long and the pace of play tends to match them.
