Hesslegårdens GK sits just outside Hässleholm, a mid-sized rail junction town in the heart of Skåne — Sweden's southernmost province and, by some margin, its most fertile golfing ground. The Skåne region has cultivated more golf courses per capita than almost anywhere else in Scandinavia, and the flat-to-gently-rolling agricultural landscape here in the northern inland part of the county gives courses a character distinct from the windswept links of the Öresund coast or the beech-forested layouts further south. Expect wide skies, open farmland, and a round that plays relatively seasonally friendly by Swedish standards.
Hässleholm itself is primarily a town of transit and practicality rather than tourism, which means Hesslegårdens functions principally as a genuine members' club serving local golfers — the kind of course where the regulars know every bounce and the atmosphere in the clubhouse after a Saturday Stableford carries more weight than any course ranking.
Skåne's long summer days are among Swedish golf's real pleasures, and a round here in June or July, with light stretching well past 9 in the evening, captures something unhurried and distinctly Scandinavian that no scorecard could begin to communicate.
