Stonebriar Country Club carries real weight in the history of American golf — it was the site of the 1987 U.S. Senior Open, a major championship won by Gary Player, and the host of multiple LPGA Tour events during an era when Frisco was still finding its footing as a community. The club was designed by D.A. Weibring, the PGA Tour player turned architect, and opened in 1987 as a centerpiece of what would become one of the most rapidly developed suburban corridors in the country.
The course plays through the rolling terrain of Collin County, where the land north of Dallas begins to open up just enough to allow genuine elevation change and some dramatic green complexes. Weibring's design rewards strategic thinking over raw power — shotmaking and course management matter here in a way that distinguishes it from the target-golf layouts that would later saturate the Dallas–Fort Worth market.
As a private club, Stonebriar serves a membership that has watched Frisco transform from a quiet exurb into one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States. That sense of established identity, in a place still very much in motion, gives the club a character that newer facilities in the area simply haven't had time to develop.
