Few English counties feel as removed from the modern rush as Herefordshire — a landscape of rolling farmland, ancient orchards, and the broad meanders of the River Wye threading through market towns that seem barely changed in centuries. Ross-on-Wye sits at the southern edge of that county, just where the river begins its dramatic push through the limestone gorges toward the Welsh border, and the golf course here reflects that unhurried, pastoral character entirely.
The layout occupies undulating Herefordshire countryside typical of the area — ground that rises and falls with enough conviction to reward accurate iron play and punish the wayward shot, while the surrounding hedgerows, mature trees, and open farmland views give every round a strong sense of place. At par 72 over 18 holes, this is proper full-length parkland golf without resort pretension.
Ross-on-Wye is genuine club golf in a corner of England that sees relatively few visitors despite its considerable natural beauty — which means unhurried rounds, a friendly members' atmosphere, and some genuinely lovely scenery as a backdrop to whatever score you manage to post.
