São Roque sits in the highland interior of São Paulo state, about 65 kilometers west of the capital, where the Serra do Japi and surrounding ranges give the landscape a cooler, greener character than the congested lowlands below. The region has quietly become one of Brazil's more interesting golf destinations — partly for its mild climate, partly because the rolling terrain suits the sport naturally — and several well-regarded clubs have taken root here over the decades.
Taxaquare Golf Clube is a private members' club serving this community, and the hilly topography of the Sorocaba valley corridor shapes the round in the way that only natural elevation change can. Expect varied lies, panoramic moments between shots, and the kind of rhythm that flat parkland layouts simply cannot replicate. The vegetation mixes Atlantic Forest remnants with open fairway corridors, giving the property a lush, distinctly Brazilian feel.
São Roque is also wine country — an unlikely but genuine designation for tropical Brazil — which adds a leisure culture around the course that extends well beyond the 18th green for visiting golfers.
