Woking

Few clubs carry as much architectural significance as Woking Golf Club. Founded in 1893, it holds a revered place in British golf history as one of the first courses where the strategic principles of inland design were genuinely worked out — the thinking that would eventually shape much of the game's design philosophy. Tom Dunn laid the original layout across the sandy, heathland soil of Surrey, and the club later became a laboratory for ideas championed by figures including John Low and others in the early amateur game. The course plays across classic Surrey heathland: heather, silver birch, Scots pine, and the kind of firm, fast-draining turf that behaves more like a links than most inland venues.
