Goodyear sits in the West Valley of the Phoenix metro, where the Sonoran Desert spreads wide against the backdrop of the Estrella Mountains — a jagged, rust-colored range that forms one of the more dramatic skylines in all of Arizona golf. Tres Rios occupies this setting with the kind of visual punch that catches first-time visitors off guard, the mountains rising sharply beyond the fairways in a way that no desert course east of the valley quite replicates.
The Estrella Mountain Regional Park surrounds much of this area, and the course draws on that wild, open character — desert scrub, saguaro cactus, and the hard, sun-baked terrain that demands respect for the rough stuff beyond the short grass. West Valley golf tends to be a bit more laid-back and accessible than the resort corridors of Scottsdale, and Tres Rios fits that spirit: a course oriented toward the everyday player rather than the trophy-wall crowd.
The par-71 layout offers a slight break from convention, suggesting a design with at least 1 par-5 converted to a par-4 or an extra short hole worked into the routing — a small wrinkle that can quietly reshape how a round scores out.
