矢板カントリークラブ occupies the rolling upland terrain of northern Tochigi Prefecture, where the Nasu Highlands begin their gradual rise toward the volcanic peaks of Nasudake. Yashiobara and the broader Nasu-Shiobara resort corridor sit just to the north, making this stretch of Tochigi one of the more scenically rewarding corners of the Kanto region's golf belt — a dense concentration of courses that developed rapidly through Japan's postwar leisure boom and continued building through the bubble era of the 1980s.

Yaita City itself is a compact market town at the northern edge of the Utsunomiya commuter zone, and the club reflects that positioning: a members' course serving the regional community rather than a destination resort, with the understated, well-maintained character typical of established Kanto country clubs outside the prestige circuit. The surrounding cedar and deciduous woodland gives the layout a sheltered, seasonal feel, with autumn foliage making October and November particularly atmospheric rounds.

Northern Tochigi's elevation means cooler summers than the Tokyo basin — a genuine asset for midday play in August — and the course sees real winter conditions, with frost closures not uncommon from December through February.
