El Campanario sits within one of the most ambitious master-planned communities in central Mexico, a residential development that took shape in the hills on Santiago de Querétaro's western edge during the late 1990s and early 2000s. The course is the centerpiece of that community, winding through the neighborhood's terrain in a way that makes it both a recreational amenity for residents and a serious test of golf in its own right. The elevation changes and rocky outcroppings characteristic of the Querétaro highlands give the layout a natural drama that purely flat parkland courses simply can't replicate.
Querétaro itself has grown dramatically into one of Mexico's most economically dynamic cities, and its golf culture has kept pace. El Campanario occupies a comfortable space in that scene — upscale without being exclusive in the manner of a traditional private club, oriented toward the community it serves while remaining open to a broader audience.
The high desert climate means firm, fast conditions for much of the year, with the rainy season from June through September softening things up considerably. Golfers accustomed to the cooler, thinner air of the Mexican altiplano will find the ball flights here notably different from sea-level play.
