Ponte Vedra Beach has long been one of American golf's most concentrated patches of real estate — TPC Sawgrass and its Stadium Course sit just down the road, and the surrounding corridor has cultivated serious private golf for decades. Marsh Landing Country Club occupies that same stretch of northeast Florida coastline, where the interplay of tidal marshes, ancient oaks draped in Spanish moss, and salt-tinged breezes defines the landscape as much as any architect's routing ever could.
The course was designed by Steve Smyers and opened in 1986, built through a residential community that frames much of the layout. Smyers used the natural marsh corridors extensively, making water and wetland carries a recurring theme throughout the round rather than an occasional hazard. The design rewards accurate iron play and penalizes lateral mistakes severely — this is not a course where recovery from the wrong side of the fairway comes easily.
As a private members' club, Marsh Landing offers a quieter, more intimate counterpoint to its famous neighbors, with a pace and atmosphere shaped by a tight-knit membership rather than tournament fanfare.
