Denver's oldest public golf course, City Park has been a fixture of the city's recreational fabric since 1913, making it one of the most historically significant municipal layouts in the American West. It sits within City Park itself — the grand Victorian-era green space on Denver's northeast side that also houses the natural history museum and the zoo — giving the course a distinctive urban atmosphere unlike almost any other public layout in the region. Rounds here unfold against the backdrop of the Front Range, with views of the Rockies that remind you exactly where you are.
The layout plays as a par 70, which reflects its shorter, more accessible character — this is a walking course designed for everyday Denver golfers, not a championship test. That accessibility is part of its identity and its appeal. Generations of city residents have learned the game here, and the worn-in familiarity of the place carries real charm.
At Denver's elevation, every shot flies farther than it would at sea level, a small but pleasing bonus that makes the course feel even more inviting to players of all abilities. City Park is unpretentious, historic, and genuinely public in spirit.
