안양 컨트리클럽 is one of South Korea's most storied private clubs, founded in 1964 and widely regarded as a landmark in the country's early golf development. Designed with a traditional parkland sensibility, the course occupies a hilly, forested setting in the hills above Gunpo — part of the broader Gyeonggi Province that rings Seoul — and has long been associated with the upper tier of Korean golf culture. Its mature tree-lined fairways demand accuracy off the tee, and the undulating terrain rewards players who can manage both elevation change and the firm, fast conditions the club maintains.
The club has hosted numerous prestigious events over the decades, including editions of the Korean Open, cementing its reputation as one of the benchmark venues in a country that has since developed one of the world's most passionate golfing cultures. For serious Korean golfers, a round here carries genuine historical weight.
Gunpo itself sits within the dense metropolitan fabric south of Seoul, but the course creates a convincing remove from urban life — the surrounding wooded ridgelines giving rounds here a quieter, more contemplative atmosphere than the capital's proximity might suggest.
