Few American military installations can claim a golf course as historically rooted as Leilehua, which sits on Schofield Barracks in the heart of Oahu's central plateau. Built to serve the soldiers and families stationed at one of the U.S. Army's largest installations, the course has been a fixture of Schofield life for decades, occupying terrain that feels worlds removed from Honolulu's coastline bustle just 30 miles south.
The central plateau offers something distinct in Hawaiian golf: elevation, cooler air, and a landscape shaped more by pineapple-field history and red volcanic soil than by oceanfront drama. Surrounded by the Waianae and Koolau mountain ranges on either side, the setting delivers panoramic ridgeline views that frame nearly every hole, and the trade winds that funnel through the plateau keep conditions honest regardless of what the scorecard suggests.
As a military course, Leilehua operates with a clear mission — providing quality, accessible golf to service members and their families — and it carries that role with the no-frills integrity that defines the best of American public-access military golf.
