天城高原ゴルフコース occupies the volcanic highlands of the Izu Peninsula, sitting at elevation on the flanks of the Amagi mountain range in what is one of Japan's most scenically dramatic inland plateaus. Designed by Seiichi Inoue and opened in 1973, the course was conceived to work with — rather than against — the rugged topography of this ancient caldera terrain, producing a layout where elevation changes, dense forests of cedar and Japanese cypress, and unpredictable mountain winds are as much a part of the challenge as the bunkers and greens.

The Izu Peninsula draws visitors for its hot springs, literary associations — Kawabata Yasunari set his celebrated novella "The Izu Dancer" in these very mountains — and mild winters compared to the Japanese mainland. Golf here feels genuinely remote, a world apart from the manicured resort corridors of coastal Izu.

The course plays long and demanding for its mountain setting, with tight fairways through forested corridors demanding accuracy over power. Autumn is arguably the finest season, when the surrounding deciduous canopy turns and mountain air sharpens the whole experience.
