Berkshire Valley has been a fixture of Morris County public golf since the 1960s, built on rolling terrain that the glacially carved highlands of northern New Jersey do so well. The layout winds through mature hardwoods and across natural wetland corridors — the kind of landscape that makes autumn rounds here genuinely spectacular, when the ridge lines surrounding the valley flush orange and red.
The course plays through varied elevation changes that reward course management over raw power. Several holes require accurate tee shots to open up the green, and the wetland areas that frame much of the property aren't just scenic — they're penal, keeping errant shots honest throughout the round. It's a par 71 that plays longer and more demanding than casual visitors expect.
As a Morris County-operated public facility, Berkshire Valley has long served as a workhorse track for local golfers — affordable, well-maintained, and genuinely interesting to play. Jefferson Township sits in the lake-dotted Kittatinny highlands, and the course carries that unhurried, north-Jersey outdoors character that regulars return to year after year.
