Sun City's North Golf Course is one of several layouts built to serve this pioneering Arizona retirement community, which Del Webb developed starting in 1960 as one of the first large-scale active adult communities in the United States. Golf was central to the Sun City concept from the very beginning — Webb understood that access to affordable, walkable courses would define the community's appeal — and the North Course reflects that democratic, residents-first philosophy that has shaped Sun City's golf culture for more than 6 decades.
The course sits within the broader Sonoran Desert environment of the western Phoenix metro, where the flat valley terrain gives way to wide-open sky, saguaro cacti, and the distant silhouette of the White Tank Mountains. Winters here are reliably mild, which means the North Course sees steady year-round play from the community's residents.
As a members-focused layout serving an active retirement population, the design emphasizes playability and comfort over championship-level punishment — a course meant to be enjoyed regularly, not endured.
