Few courses carry a name with more resonance in Atlanta golf circles. Charlie Yates was a beloved figure in the city's golfing life — a close friend of Bobby Jones, the 1938 British Amateur champion, and for decades the genial, tireless ambassador of East Lake Golf Club next door. Naming this 9-hole layout in his honor was a fitting tribute to a man who gave so much to the game at the grassroots level.
East Lake itself is hallowed ground in American golf, the neighborhood where Jones learned to play and home to the Tour Championship. This shorter course sits within that same storied community in DeKalb County, and while it operates at a more accessible scale than its famous neighbor, it carries genuine weight of place. The surrounding area has undergone remarkable revitalization over the past few decades, and golf has been part of that story.
At par 30 over 9 holes, this is a layout built for accessibility and introduction to the game rather than tournament examination — a community asset in one of golf's most historically charged zip codes.
