Temple Terrace Golf & Country Club carries one of the more remarkable backstories in Florida golf. The course dates to the early 1920s, developed as the centerpiece of a planned Mediterranean Revival community northeast of Tampa. The town of Temple Terrace itself was essentially built around the club, conceived as an upscale citrus and real estate venture where the golf course served as the social and geographic heart of the development. That heritage gives the property a sense of permanence and purpose that most Florida layouts simply cannot manufacture.
The course sits along the Hillsborough River, and that natural corridor shapes both the scenery and the challenge. Tree-lined fairways, mature oaks, and genuine elevation changes — rare in this part of Florida — give it a character that feels more old-Florida than the manicured resort style that dominates the region today.
As a private country club, Temple Terrace rewards its members with a course that has genuine roots in the community around it. For a layout this age in central Florida, that continuity of place is worth something real.
