Henties Bay sits on Namibia's Skeleton Coast, one of the most dramatically inhospitable stretches of coastline on earth. The town itself is a small fishing outpost where the cold Benguela Current meets the Namib Desert, producing a landscape of dunes, gravel plains, and near-constant Atlantic wind. Golf here is not about manicured fairways — it's about playing in a place that feels genuinely unlike anywhere else you've put a club on a ball.
Desert courses in Namibia typically feature oiled-sand or compacted-earth playing surfaces rather than grass, and Henties Bay almost certainly follows that tradition. You play the ball as the desert gives it to you, with browns and ochres replacing the greens a golfer might expect. Wind off the South Atlantic is a constant factor, and the surrounding scenery — arid mountains, coastal fog, the raw emptiness of the Namib — makes concentration both harder and somehow beside the point.
At par 70, the layout likely rewards accuracy and course management over raw power. But the real reason to play Henties Bay isn't the score you post — it's the sheer improbability of playing 18 holes in one of the world's most remote and elemental landscapes.
