Few courses in Scotland can claim a setting quite like Cathkin Braes, perched on the high ground south of Glasgow with views that stretch across the city and out toward the Highlands on a clear day. The course sits on the Cathkin Braes plateau above Rutherglen, and that elevation is everything — the terrain is open, exposed, and unforgiving in the wind, giving the layout a character that feels closer to moorland golf than the parkland you might expect this close to a major city.
Cathkin Braes Golf Club is one of the older clubs in the Glasgow area, with roots running back to the 19th century, and the course carries that sense of accumulated history. The routing takes full advantage of the natural contours of the braes, with tumbling fairways and firm, fast turf when conditions are right.
For visiting golfers, it represents a genuinely local experience — a members' club rooted in its community, well clear of the tourist trail, and rewarding precisely because of that.
