Few golf destinations in Puerto Rico carry the atmospheric weight of El Legado, which rises from the sun-baked southern coastal plain near Guayama — a city known historically as the "City of Witches" for its strong Afro-Caribbean folklore traditions. The contrast between that coastal flatland and the rugged terrain the course occupies gives El Legado a personality distinct from the better-known resort layouts along the island's northern and western shores.
The southern coast runs drier and hotter than the rest of Puerto Rico, baked by trade winds that funnel off the Caribbean, and that climate shapes every round here. Fairways play firm and fast, the sun sits relentlessly overhead for most of the day, and the surrounding landscape has a raw, semi-arid character — scrubby vegetation, exposed ridgelines — that feels a world away from the lush tropical resort aesthetic golfers elsewhere on the island expect.
As a resort property, El Legado serves as the centerpiece of a broader destination experience, drawing visitors looking for something beyond San Juan's well-traveled golf corridor and offering a genuine sense of Puerto Rico's lesser-explored southern interior.
