Ludlow sits in the heart of Vermont's Black River Valley, best known as the gateway to Okemo Mountain Resort and the kind of New England hill town where the seasons dictate everything. Golf here means dramatic elevation changes, dense hardwood forests turning electric in September and October, and a mountain climate that keeps the grass green and the fairways cool well into summer.
Fox Run Golf Club plays through this characteristically Vermont terrain — a layout where the land itself does much of the design work. A par 70 suggests a course that trades length for precision, likely rewarding players who can shape shots through wooded corridors and manage the slopes rather than simply overpower the course. That kind of routing tends to produce memorable, idiosyncratic holes that a longer, flatter track rarely delivers.
For visitors coming off the slopes at Okemo or exploring the southern Vermont countryside, Fox Run offers the regional golf experience at its most honest — a course that belongs to its landscape rather than fighting it.
