Few golf settings in India match the elevation and atmosphere of Coorg — the hill district of Karnataka that produces some of the country's finest coffee and spices. Virajpet sits deep in this landscape, surrounded by cardamom plantations and dense forest, with the Western Ghats defining the horizon in nearly every direction. Golf here is genuinely of its place: the air carries that cool, moist quality unique to the highlands, and the terrain rolls in ways that no architect could manufacture on flat ground.
Coorg Golf Links is a relatively modest layout that draws its character entirely from its surroundings rather than from design ambition. The natural contours of the land do most of the work, and playing it feels more like a walk through working agricultural country than a visit to a manicured resort course. Expect uneven lies, unpredictable bounces, and greens that reward local knowledge.
For visiting golfers, the appeal is less about scoring well and more about the sheer improbability of playing golf in one of South India's most beautiful and least-visited corners.
